Allium karataviense HBb/BB
A late spring-flowering bulb with more than 50 or more tiny star-shaped, pale purplish-pink flowers on a spherical umbel, borne above basal broad greyish-purple-green leaves with red edges. It is very interesting right from when the bulb first emerges the leaves look like a bullet bulging through the soil, the leaves then slowly open like a delicate lily followed much later by the flowerhead. Quite unusual and charming. Ht 8in S 10in. For a sunny, very well drained spot with some shelter from cold winter winds.
