Snake’s Head Fritillary (Fritillaria meleagris) HBb/BB/BN
A beautiful and elegant native bulb found mostly in Southern England in damp meadows. Red-purple or cream flowers, chequered dark and light appear in April followed by interestingly-shaped seedheads. Ht 10in. Plant in sun in soil that does not dry out, at least 4in deep to avoid being dug up by mice. Pollinated by bumblebees.
