Cowslip (Primula veris) HP/BB/BN
Once so common in our meadows, these plants are survivors, now establishing themselves as a roadside/motorway side plant away from the plough and the sprayer. Beautiful yellow, sweet-scented flowers in April and May . The flowers are erect in bud, but then droop as they open to protect the nectar and pollen from the weather. Cowslips do well in hedgerows and in semi-woodlands where they get some sunshine. They grow best on a chalky, but fairly heavy soil but are actually not very fussy. Ht 4-9in. Very adaptable in the garden situation.
