Wild Strawberry (Fragaria vesca) HP
An excellent groundcover plant for sun or light shade with the added advantage of bearing small jewel-like sweet-tasting fruits from mid-summer to autumn. What more could you want? !! The fruits have a far superior flavour to the cultivated strawberry and are marvellous with cream or made into jam. This plant prefers a fertile and moist soil and is found in the wild in woods, hedgerows and is especially abundant on chalky soils. The bright breen leaves when dried have a musky fragrance and can be used as a tea substitute. Both the leaves and the fruit have been used for medicinal purposes by herbals for years. The dainty white flowers are borne for most of the summer followed by the bright red fruits. Ht 2in-1ft S indefinite.
