Betony (Stachys officinalis) HP/BB/BN
Betony is a dense, bushy plant producing numerous stems of purple-red blooms in summer that are highly attractive to bees. Now becoming more scarce in the wild but can be found growing in some numbers in the South West in open woodland, hedges and grass with lady's bedstraw, ox-eye daisy and burnet rose. Long been grown as a cottage garden plant and looks very colourful when grown in a mixed bed or in grassland. It is very accommodating, growing in most soils and will tolerate all but the deepest shade. Ht 6in-2ft.
