Field or Common Poppies (Papaver rhoeas) HA/BN
One of the most colourful plants to grow in the garden and a traditional cornfield flower along with cornflowers, corn chamomile and corncockles. Field poppies were not so much weeds of corn as companion plants and the seed was harvested for use as a flavouring for breads and cakes. Will only self-seed year after year in cultivated soil as they are swamped by grass. Ht 8in-2ft. Best grown in a sunny fertile spot. Packs of 9 available April-June.
