Lemon verbena (Aloysia triphylla) HHP AGM
Originally from Chile, this has one of the strongest lemon scents of all the herbs. The fresh leaves may be used to flavour vinegar, oils, drinks, fruity puddings, ice creams, jellies, cakes and stuffings. Makes an easy infusion for finger bowls. Leaves are pale green, elongated and strongly scented of lemons. Tiny white flowers appear in spring. Ht 3-10ft S up to 8ft (depending on growing position!) Best in a pot in light free-draining soil that can be kept in a warm sunny spot and then moved to a frost-free greenhouse for the winter.
